NewYork, NY – October 2008
Priscilla of Boston bridal group announces the appointment of the new co-designers of the Melissa Sweet and Reverie by Melissa Sweet collections, Lia McNairy and Antonio Gual effective immediately. In their new role, McNairy and Gual will assume the position of the founder, Melissa Sweet who has left to pursue other personal interests. Both McNairy and Gual will share the oversight of the design direction for the Melissa Sweet and Reverie by Melissa Sweet collections.
As head designers for the Melissa Sweet & Reverie by Melissa Sweet collections, both McNairy and Gual have long been an integral part of the team, aiding in the development of the brand with former design director Sweet. McNairy, who joined the collection six years ago as Melissa’s right hand, is a graduate of F.I.T. and formerly the design director at Cynthia Rowley. Gual, who has been a long time friend and collaborator of Sweet’s, was hand-picked by Melissa Sweet to join the team in 2004. Prior to joining the team he trained F.I.T., graduated from the French Fashion Academy and is accredited by the Chambre Syndicale in Paris. Both will continue the Melissa Sweet fashion-conscious, whimsical design ethos that has captured the attention of retailers and press nationwide.
McNairy and Gual are credited for the successful launch of the Reverie by Melissa Sweet collection before Sweet’s departure. This brand further extends the Melissa Sweet brand to a ready-to-wear point of view, catering to a bride who chooses not to wear a traditional bridal gown.
“For many years, Lia and Antonio have been key contributors and a critical part of the success of this brand,” says Ramona de la Rosa, Executive Vice President, Merchandising. “They have both the passion and understanding that will continue to drive the future growth of the brand.”
